Kevin's
Concert set for Sunday, March 29
After a very
successful kickoff last year, it's time for Kevin's Concert, Vol.
2, this time at the Sonar club, 407 E. Saratoga St., in
downtown Baltimore.
The March 29
fund-raiser is put together by local musician Patrick Kisicki, in
honor of his brother Kevin Kisicki, DDS, who donated a kidney to
Patrick five years ago.
This year's
concert will feature bands Ellen Cherry, Whale Show, Promise Lab,
Perfect Matches and more, including a raffle. Tickets are $20 at
the door and are available online, with a $4 service charge, at www.sonarbaltimore.com.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
We'd love a great turnout for this fun evening to
support NKF-MD.

World Kidney Day is a success
March 13,
World Kidney Day 2009, had NKF-MD very busy. Board members Lamont
Thomas and Dr. David Klassen appeared on Fox45 Morning News to
talk about kidney disease, and Dr. Klassen later appeared on
ABC2News' Good Morning Maryland program, also to boost awareness
of kidney disease.

A midday KEY
screening at Reisterstown Road Plaza brought in 79 people for
testing. Many thanks to our Las Amigas volunteers, pictured
above, and board members Janet Hartman, Lamont Thomas and
Larry Snyder for helping with the screening. And, of course, we
appreciate the hard work of Dr. Tessie Behrens, who analyzes the
test results and follows up with the participants.
As part of a
nationwide NKF advocacy effort, Marylanders Sarah DeCerbo and
Christopher Schaum received legislative advocacy training
and visited Capitol Hill on World Kidney Day. They asked
lawmakers to support pending legislation to extend Medicare
coverage of immunosuppressive drugs to recipients for the life of
their transplant.
DeCerbo, a
29-year-old financial advisor, became involved with NKF-MD
because both her father and grandfather had kidney disease and
were on dialysis. DeCerbo's father received a kidney from his
brother in 2000. Her grandfather pased away last year. She has
volunteered with the Kidney Walks and Beyond Dialysis events.
Schaum, an
insurance auditor from Pasadena, has had kidney disease since
childhood. He received kidney transplants in 1984 and 2000, and
is awaiting his third kidney transplant, from his
sister, this summer.
