Collins, also a professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota, will discuss "Chronic Kidney Disease, Diabetes and Heart Disease: The Triple Threat to Public Health."

Western Maryland golf tournament planned

 

The 1st Annual Western Maryland NKF Golf Classic, benefitting the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, will take place on Friday, October 10 at Cumberland Country Club, 10200 Country Club Road in Cumberland.  award winners

 

This club is considered one of the finest in the region. Golfers are encouraged to stay for the weekend and enjoy the crisp mountain air and spectacular fall colors.

Legg Mason to be honored at galagala logo
 

For its long commitment to the community and to NKF-MD, Legg Mason will receive the foundation's Public Service Award at its 23rd annual Gift of Life Gala on Saturday, Nov. 22. The company is also supporting the event as the premier sponsor. 

 

Mary "Tessie" Behrens, M.D., of Mid-Atlantic Nephrology, will receive a Champion of Hope Award, for her service to NKF-MD as a former chairman of the Medical Advisory Board, a member of the board of directors, and the supervising physician of the foundation's KEY (Kidneys: Evaluate Yours) screenings. 
 
Neil R. Powe, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., a faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, also will receive a Champion of Hope Award for his accomplishments in treating patients with end-stage renal disease, preventing the misuse of treatments and examining the effectiveness of various technologies, including peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis.

Artie Shaw concert set for Hagerstown
 

artie shawFans of the Big Band sound will enjoy "A Tribute to Artie Shaw" by the Brooks Tegler Orchestra on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Hagerstown's historic Maryland Theatre.
