Share your thoughts on organ allocation

When there aren't enough organs to go around, it's a tough challenge for doctors and policymakers to balance the need to be fair and efficient when deciding how to allocate donated kidneys.

To improve the national policy for allocation of deceased donor kidneys, the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network/United Network for Organ Sharing (OPTN/UNOS) is examining and modeling various methods. The NKF is seeking input from the public on this important policy issue.

OPTN/UNOS is asking the kidney community to contribute to the discussion. The NKF's committee to review allocation policy will provide its summary assessment to OPTN/UNOS soon, and it encourages you to give your input to the UNOS committee by Dec. 15 by clicking here.

Have a healthy and happy Thanksgiving

Holiday fare can be full of sodium and thus off-limits for kidney patients. NKF has recipes for healthy versions of roast turkey with sage, gravy, braised red cabbage and pumpkin maple custard. Find these recipes here

NKF-MD wishes everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. With all the challenges we face, as individuals and as a nation, it's a good opportunity to count our blessings.
